Government : Benton County Democrats call for convention to choose supervisor candidate

Rosemary Schwartz, chair of the Benton County Democratic Central Committee has called to reconvene the 2012 Benton County Democratic convention to be held on August 12, 2013, in the U.S. Bank Community Room, Vinton, for the purpose of electing a Democratic candidate for Supervisor District 1. The convention is open to all Democrats but only the delegates and the alternates needed to fill the convention number will be deciding who that candidate will be. Letters are being sent to the delegates and alternates by the Central Committee to inform them of the process. Registration begins at 6:30 pm with the convention convening at 7 p.m.

Any Democrat living in District 1 or with plans to move to District 1 before taking office if elected can ask to be considered by the convention. Please contact, Ms. Schwartz at 319-504-9376 if anyone is considering vying for the position for the Democratic Party. There will be time allotted for each candidate to address the convention. The winner of the vote will have to garner 50% + 1 of the convention seated delegates. Votes will continue by written ballot until one candidate meets that threshold. These rules are set by the Iowa Code and the Iowa Democratic Party.
