The Benton County Board of Supervisors met at 9:00 a.m. in emergency session. All members were present.
Unless otherwise noted, all actions were approved unanimously.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss emergency actions to be taken in response to the major flood event predicted to occur in Vinton over the next several days. Representatives of various organizations were present as well as department heads within the county. It was determined that evacuation of the Transportation facility including personnel and equipment was necessary. It was also determined that prisoners should be moved to another county during the event due to the uncertainty of the situation and the effect it would have on housing inmates.
Wiley moved/Hertle seconded: To adjourn. Motion carried.
The board was reconvened at 10:30 a.m.
Wiley moved/Hertle seconded: To Declare an Emergency. Voting aye were Frese, Wiley, and Hertle. Motion carried.
BENTON COUNTY EMERGENCY DECLARATION
Benton County has suffered from flooding, which occurred on September 23 through September 27, 2016, causing severe damage to public and private property, disruption of utility service and endangerment of health and safety of the citizens of Benton County within the disaster area. Therefore the Benton County Board of Supervisors has declared a state of emergency authorized under Iowa Code Section 331.301 and will execute the expenditure of emergency funds from all available sources, the invoking of mutual aid agreements, and the applying to the State of Iowa for assistance.
This state of emergency declaration shall continue for thirty (30) days, unless sooner terminated or extended by further proclamation.
