Editor's Note: Today we continue our election coverage with a profile of Dawn Pettengill, the Republican candidate for State Representative. As with other profiles, we offer this information in the candidate's own words. Iowa House, District 75 Dawn Pettengill, R-Mount Auburn Biography: 61, with two sons, Jon and Nick, a beautiful daughter-in-law Leah, more beautiful granddaughter Elaina and Lucy Lou, puppy watchdog in training. Graduate of Purdue University - Mechanical Engineering, but with no mechanical aptitude, took my math skills into financial services instead. Pension, investments and compliance are my specialty areas. I am a member at Trinity Episcopal Church, the Vinton Cottage Garden Society and Vinton Lion's Club. Founded the Mount Auburn Youth Council, several senior nutrition annual food drives and the W2L Women 2 Leadership conference series. Blessed to be named a Friend of Agriculture (2006 - 2016), Guardian of Small Business 2008 - 2016), Friend of Iowa Business (2008 - 2016), Heritage Agency on Aging Elected Official of the Year 2013 and Legislator of the Year 2006, and receive the Presidential Citation from Independent Insurance Agents of Iowa 2015, Outstanding Elected Official by the Iowa Health Care Association 2015, Presidential Citation for Outstanding Service from the Iowa Medical Society 2016. Experience: Served six terms as state representative. Elected twice as mayor of Mount Auburn, three times for city council. Have served on the ECICOG Board and Executive Committee, the Benton County Solid Waste Commission, the Benton Development Group Board, the Benton County Emergency Management Commission and the REAP Board. In the Legislature, currently serve on the Department on Aging Commission (7 yrs), the IPERS Investment Board (9 yrs) and the Municipal Fire and Police Retirement Systems Trustee for two. Interim study committees have included the Skilled Worker Shortage Commission, Identity Theft Commission and 4 years as the co-chair Retirement Plan Systems. Legislative committee appointments have been Commerce (12 years), State Government (10 yrs), Ways and Means (7 yrs), Local Government (3 yrs), Environmental Protection (2 yrs), Agriculture (2 yrs), Ranking member of the Ethics Committee (2 yrs), Government Oversight Committee (6 yrs) and House Chair of the Administrative Rules Committee (4 yrs). This election is about making sure our kids and adults get the skills they need to be successful and employed, health care affordability, and keeping our budget balanced.
