Editor's Note: Today we continue our election coverage with a profile of Terry Hertle, the Democratcandidate for County Supervisor. As with other profiles, we offer this information in the candidate's own words.   Terry Hertle is a 71 year old life-long rural area farmer and farmland owner in Benton County. He has been married for 52 years to his wife, Judi, and they have two grown children and their families. They live on the family century farm located at 6680 27th avenue between Vinton and Newhall. He is a 1962 graduate of Newhall High School. Terry has been active all his life in community, civic, and church organizations. He is a past member of the corn, soybean, cattle, and pork producers associations. Also the Lion's Club, Farm Bureau, WMT Farm Panel, Benton County Community Foundation for ten years, and served as president of the Benton County Extension Council for three years where he was honored with "Friends of Iowa Extension" award by the state. He served as co-chairman of the Quasquicentennial celebration for Newhall, Iowa in 2007. He has held past and present offices in St John Lutheran Church in Newhall. He is currently serving a four year term as a Benton County supervisor in Benton county. Some of the accomplishments in the past four years; are the hiring of a full-time deputy in the courthouse; allowing the county attorney to form a collection agency to collect past due fines; restoring and repairing the courthouse clock and bell after many years of silence; making the Veterans Affair director full-time and moving their office in the Governor Sherman building to a more accessible location for our aging veterans; moved the Department of Human Services office to a new location for a better environmental and safer working place; we now send our juvenile delinquents to the Central Iowa Juvenile Delinquent Center in Eldora where a bed night is $50 instead of to the Northern Iowa Delinquent Center north of Waterloo with a cost of $125 a bed night; formed the Benton County Solid Waste Commission to oversee the collection of garbage in the urban and rural areas; and replaced many of our aging bridges and box culverts, resurfaced many miles of our hard surfaced county roads, and finished the long delayed Oak Grove road grading project. Hertle is not without concerns for the county. As a farmland owner he is concerned about the environment, economic growth, and land use. As a property owner, he is also concerned about taxes and the county budget. Fiscally conservative, Hertle states he will be a good steward of the taxpayer's dollar. He will listen and work hard for ALL the citizens in making common sense decisions. And as your county supervisor, Hertle will continue to try to improve the lives of our Benton County citizens, both economically and socially.
