The Benton County Supervisors approved the recommendation of the Compensation Board to accept the pay raises of the elected officials. This will grant a 28.5% pay increase for the Sheriff due to the Back the Blue bill passed in Iowa as well as a 10% increase for all of the elected officials.

The decision is tied into the required pay raise of the Sheriff to bring his salary up to the required salary set by state officials.

If the supervisors had lowered the 10% recommendation it would also lower the Sheriff's putting the county in conflict with the new state law.

All other raises will follow according to state law for those in the 2nd and 3rd positions under the elected officials with a percentage of the elected official's salary.

KT January 25, 2022, 2:34 pm Keeping our county running and doing what's right by law or state, isn't an easy job. More people need to follow the Supervisor meetings and see what these elected officials need to know and follow through in what they think is right for our county. Not an easy job, to please everyone, but they try their best. I wouldn't want any of their jobs---would you???????? Most, earn their paychecks. They have to know a lot more than the average person, in my opinion!!!!
DC January 25, 2022, 3:31 pm With this large on an increase it should have been to taxpayer vote.

PH January 25, 2022, 5:27 pm Wow. Maybe it’s time to think about combining small counties.
ER January 26, 2022, 1:39 pm Yes, Paula Happel. There is really no reason to have 100 courthouses in this state in this day and age!
