The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Primmer, Bierschenk and Seeman present, Supervisor Primmer called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Benton County Service Center. Members of the public are invited to join in during open session or watch the livestream at https://www.youtube.com/bentoncountyiowa. Summarized Resolutions will be available in the Auditor's office and at: www.bentoncountyia.gov
Bierschenk moved/Seeman seconded: To approve the agenda. All members voting aye. Motion carried.
Seeman moved/Bierschenk seconded: To approve the minutes from October 22, 2024. Primmer, Seeman and Bierschenk voting aye. Motion carried.
Seeman moved/Bierschenk seconded: To approve the Fireworks permit for Iowa Pyrotechnic Association for November 16, 2024 pending the fire chief's signature of approval. Primmer, Seeman and Bierschenk voting aye thereon. Motion carried.
Bierschenk moved/Seeman seconded: To accept resignation of Crystal Northup as full time communications specialist effective November 8, 2024 and approve hiring her for part-time food service/custodian for a beginning wage of $19.51 an hour effective October 29, 2024. Primmer, Seeman and Bierschenk voting aye. Motion carried.
Shelby Williams, Conservation Director shared the FY 24 annual report with the board and public. After today's meeting, that will become available to the public also.
Eric Shares, Weed Commissioner, wanted to provide an update and inform the Board about pursuing the new spray trucks that had been in the budget for the weed department for a few years and never acted upon. He shared the two quotes for a chemical injection sprayer beds. These quotes do not include the actual truck, that will be a separate purchase. Shares reported that an F550 truck would not require a CDL to operate, although they would still need a CDL to operate the hydro-seeder.
The two quotes were as follows:
IVM Solutions-$88,803.31 with an optional upgrade of $15,000 for an injection pump and drift control pump.
Norstar Industries, Inc.-114,285.00
These same quotes will be shared with the Conservation Board, but they wanted to provide the update to the Board of Supervisors.
Gary Bierschenk reported that he got his harassment training done since he wasn't present for the all employee meeting. Supervisor Primmer reported on the workforce development and the Central Iowa Juvenile Detention meetings. Supervisor Seeman reported that the radio tower project is still taking longer than anticipated.
Charles Greene spoke up during public comments. Greene said he received a call from a sheriff deputy regarding his health condition and how he may need to move due to the dust caused by all the traveling trucks on his road. They told him if he had concerns to come to a supervisors meeting, so he wanted it on record that he did.
Seeman moved/Bierschenk seconded: To Adjourn at 9:34 a.m. Primmer, Seeman and Bierschenk voting aye. Motion carried.
