VFW Shellsburg Patriotic Youth Essay winners named

On Friday, March 31, 2023 our VFW and VFW Auxiliary presented Shellsburg Elementary School medals and certificates for their essay winners.We also presented Shellsburg Elementary School with a certificate of Appreciation for letting our organization come into their school to honor our Veterans and their families.

Our Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Auxiliary 8884) in Vinton holds an Elementary 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Essay contest each year. The 5th grade students are all at Shellsburg along with 3rd, and 4th graders at Tilford.

Benton County Emergency Management warns residents of fast moving storms

The possibility of tornados, strong winds, hail and all the damage that comes with these storms are expected to arrive in our area this afternoon. Area schools are closing early to avoid having the high provile buses loaded with children on the roads during the event.
