An untraditional Memorial Day

This Memorial Day was like so many other events this year, there but not recognized like it should be. The flags at the cemetery and around town however, remind us of the great sacrifice made by our local men and women.

VSCSD: No Free Meals on Monday, Memorial Day

Food Director, Karen Ackman announced that there will be no free meals served on Monday, May 25 in Observance of Memorial Day. The meals will resume on Tuesday, May 26 and will continue through the summer.

Graduate banners can now be seen in downtown Vinton store windows

Vinton is such a unique town in its capabilities. For example, the state closes the school just in time for graduation, so area parents begin to brainstorm to come up with ideas to make memories for the graduating class.

In the days of COVID lockdowns, those suffering the most from confinement are our elderly who are unable to see family and friends. On Friday the Vinton Lutheran Home came up with a brilliant idea to allow families to sit next to their loved one, at the window in the dining area.
