Sunday, the class of 2019 said their final goodbyes to their friends and teachers and joined the community as alumni of the Vinton-Shellsburg School District.

City brush and compost site closing at 4:00 p.m. due to flooding
Due to rising water the brush/compost site will be closing by 4:00 pm today, Friday, May 24th. The alternate site is between W 3rd Street and W 4th Street by the railroad tracks.

Members of the American Legion place Flags for Memorial Day
The American Legion performed the solemn duty of placing flags on each of the graves of a Veteran buried at Evergreen Cemetery.Memorial Day is specifically to remember those who died in active military service to our country.

Vinton Public Library Summer Reading Program to begin in June
Join us for a summer of fun and friends! The 2019 Summer Reading Program will begin in June starting with a READO sheet. In July we will have a new July READO sheet available and begin Summer Reading activities and programming.

Schools/Agencies Recognize need for Stop the Bleed Training for Emergencies
Over the last several months, the Vinton-Shellsburg Community School District, Vinton Police Department, North Benton Ambulance, Benton County Public Health, and Virginia Gay Hospital have been working together to better prepare VSCSD facilities, staff and students to respond to any potentially life-threatening traumatic injury on school grounds in accordance with the national Stop the Bleed campaign.

Pool to Delay Opening until June 3
Due to extremely harsh winter weather, deep ground freeze and unseasonably cool spring temperatures, upon filling of the swimming pool for opening this season we have encountered some critical failures of vital pool parts that will force us to delay the opening of the 2019 pool season.

Vinton Food Pantry Celebrates 35 Years
The Vinton Food Pantry, a volunteer-operated project began in 1985.Jane LaGrange was one of the driving forces of the food pantry. She first became involved in 1987 when she was asked to help store food for the Benton County Food Pantry.
