  Your school cumulative folder is available for you to pick up at the Central Office located at 1502 C Ave., Vinton, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30p.m. Mon.-Fri.  Folders will be available until July 15, 2011, at which time they will be disposed of.  Folders will be released to the student only, unless a signed release is presented at time of pick-up.

       The Vinton-Shellsburg Band was honored for its academic achievement, as well as its outstanding musical season which included Division 1 ratings throughout the year and a repeat trip to the Iowa High School Jazz Championships.      Each band section earned a "Distinguished" honor, representing an average GPA of 3.

  The week of June 5-11, 2011 has been proclaimed National Garden week by National Garden Clubs, Inc.   This is a special week in which garden clubs are in the spotlight with activities focusing on public attention of the role which garden club members play in all phases of gardening.   The Cottage Garden Society placed containers of flowers by the store fronts around town.

     The next big show coming to Vinton as part of the Library Summer Reading Program entertainment is Iowa magician David Casas.       Casas, from Muscatine, was 17 when he saw magicians at a mall, and decided to pursue it.      He uses birds and cards in his show. The event in Vinton takes place at 10:30 a.

   There are two meanings to the following statement: There are no bars in the new Benton County Jail.      There are no bars in the prison. The inmates are confined with reinforced steel doors.      And there are no bars on the cell phones of people inside the building.       Some visitors to the new Benton County Law Enforcement Center are surprised to see in the main lobby a device that is quickly vanishing from just about everywhere else in society: A pay phone.

     The Benton Community High School JEL (Just Eliminate Lies) Chapter has a lot to be proud of this year.       Members of the group, which aims to stop underage use of tobacco and alcohol as well as drug use, competed in an event called the Take Charge Challenge against 20 other high school advocacy groups in the Benton, Linn and Jones County areas.
