News : Rec Center annual closing Oct. 31-Nov 3; November activities listed

The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department will be doing their annual shut down of the Recreation Center for maintenance October 31 – November 3. This will allow staff a chance to strip and wax floors and makes the needed repairs to the facility to get ready for the busy winter season at the center. The office will still be open for business from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday to take care of any needs that you may need to take care of.

Then we kick off our winter hours on Monday November 4th as follows:

Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Sundays 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Saturday, November 2nd /Fall Craft & Bake Sale

Vinton Skate & Activity Center

This event will take place from 8:00a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and will feature many craft vendors and some great baked goods from area participants. There is no admission fee for buyers, so stop out and see the wide selection of great products.

Sunday, November 3rd /Jack – O – Lantern Jump

Vinton Recreation Center

This event will take place at 2:00 p.m. and is for all ages but mainly for people who really like to have fun. Bring your carved Jack – O – Lantern and let it fly about forty feet straight down and watch it splat. Once again our great friends at Vinton Pizza Hut are giving away pizzas for those that enter and special pizzas for those with the best display of explosion and accuracy. Come out and join in the fun and the extra bonus; it serves as a great way to get rid of your pumpkins.

Sunday,November 10th /Parent/Child Turkey Shoot Free Throw Contest Vinton Recreation Center

This event will take place at 2:00 p.m. and is for all kids and parents. This is your chance to win that holiday turkey thanks to the great sponsorship by Fareway of Vinton. The fee is only $1.00 per parent/child team and each participant will then shoot fifteen free throws each to get their team score. There will gain be three age groups based on the combine age of each team. No pre-registration needed, just be at the Vinton Recreation Center at 2:00 p.m. for this fun family event.

Tot Lot – The indoor fun season is beginning and what better way to start it off than our annual Tot Lot program. We are changing the program this year to Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the Vinton Skate & Activity Center. Tot Lot is a great chance for Pre-school age and younger kids to burn off some energy while interacting with other kids in a fun environment. It is also a great time for adults to interact with other adults. Cost is only $1.00 per time and a season pass and group rates are available.
