The 90th national American Rabbit Breeders Association rabbit and cavy show was held in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, October 19-23, 2013. Many Iowa 4H youth who are enrolled in the 4H rabbit project competed in national youth rabbit contests.
The Iowa rabbit junior team won the Quiz Bowl knowledge competition becoming the 2013 – 2014 Rabbit Quiz Bowl National ARBA Champions.
The members of this team were Josiah and Nehemaih Westercamp of the Jolly Trio 4H Club of Van Buren County, Sarah and Selah Galkowski of the Canton Upstreamers 4H Club of Benton County and Robert “BJ” Jones of the Southside Pride 4H Club of Polk County.
The Quiz Bowl contest consisted of many rounds of knowledge testing with each round having 20 questions focusing on critical thinking skills, problem solving, and decision making in a small group. The ARBA show was a sanctioned rabbit and cavy show with entries exceeding 20,000 representing adult and youth exhibitors from the United States and other countries such as Canada, England, Germany and Japan.
