Congregation Pres. George Bauer presents Bethlehem’s first $101 check to VFD Chief Gary McKenna.

After a great year of looking back over its past 100 years with all of its special memories, the members of Bethlehem are now looking ahead while continuing to cherish the memories of the years gone by and all the many wonderful people who have been an integral part of its history. Someone once said that “We cannot live in the past but we can learn from it”. One of the things that was clearly apparent during our look back was the great spiritual, moral and financial support the members of our congregation gave to the church and the larger community over these last 100 years.

With that in mind the congregation is continuing and expanding is outreach to the local community and beyond. First-- Bethlehem will continue giving monthly gifts to deserving community organizations. This year’s gifts will be in the amount of $101 dollars in thanks for our 101 years as a congregation. Second—Bethlehem supports the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s Hunger Appeal, Disaster Response, Malaria Campaign, and the many Lutheran World Relief quilt, school kits, and other projects. Third-- as we have done for many years we will continue to support local charities with donations of food and clothing but in addition this year we will be adding something new. We are going to reach out to others to join with us in a much larger food packaging event. Watch for more details! We hope many will become involved.

This month's recipient is the Vinton Fire Department.
