On Tuesday, January 28, students at Shellsburg Elementary jumped all over heart disease and stroke by participating in Jump Rope For Heart. The students raised more than $1,500 for the American Heart Association, which funds research, programs and education to fight heart disease and stroke, our nation’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers. Shellsburg PE teacher Megan Albertsen organized the event. "This year a special assembly was held in the gymnasium to end the Jump Rope for Heart program. Third, Fourth, and Fifth-grade classes presented a jump-rope routine to the younger grades. I'm very pleased with the success of this event," said Albertsen. Approximately 150 students preformed a dance and were given a collection envelope to accept donations from family and friends. Students were given the materials after the Christmas break and each classes created/practiced their routine every PE class in January.
