News : Live-Love-Dance! Voyagers Spring show brings dancers alumni, youngsters together

The renewed Vinton-Shellsburg Voyager Dance Team ended its first season with a big celebration on Friday, as the dancers joined dozens of youngsters and about 25 Voyager alumni for a special event with many performances.

VSHS students and VS teachers even joined in the dancing. High school boys joined the Voyagers for a Guys & Dolls dance. The Voyagers also led groups of girls from Kindergarten through 8th grade in a variety of performances.

Several Voyagers received awards for their work during the year. Caitlin Kruckenberg received the Outstanding Academic award; Rachel Nugent, Most Improved. Senior Kyra Blix earned the Leadership Award; teammates also voted for her as the Outstanding Voyager. Other Voyagers include Daisy Johnson, Amanda Burkey, Kierra Howard and Kristin Halstead.

Coach Melanie Davis was a Voyager and co-captain when she graduated in 1996. The other co-captain, Christina Rudd, is now coaching the dance team at Maquoketa Valley High School in Delhi. She brought the MV team for a special performance. They danced to "Undone" in a special performance designed to honor the two senior dancers on their team.
