Vinton—Marie Tschopp donned apparel from the late 1800’s to appear as Laura Ingalls Wilder at the Horridge House in Vinton on Sunday, April 27th. Marie gave a lively presentation of how the Ingalls family lived, worked, and laughed as Laura grew up in the upper Midwest. A crowd of adults and many children came to hear the stories of the Ingalls.
In addition to many people from the Vinton area, the event also attracted people from around the state including from Burr Oak where a museum dedicated the Laura Ingalls Wilder further tells her story.
Before and after the presentation, attendees perused the 1860’s house built by George Horridge. The home, which is on the National Register of Historic Places was severely damaged in the July 2011 windstorm that tore through the county. Most repairs have been completed and the house is now ready to be opened to the community. The event on Sunday is the first in a series that the Benton County Historical Society are planning for the Horridge House and Depot.
