The 14 members of the Vinton-Shellsburg Entrepreneurship class have been delivering a new variety of Vinton Popcorn to area stores as well as the Kacena Tree Farm.

"We are really excited about this," said instructor Aric Chvala.

The class has replaced the Mushroom variety of popcorn with one known as Butterfly.

Some people, said Chvala, had complained that the Mushroom variety kernels were too big and getting stuck in their teeth. The Butterfly variety, he adds, pops into a kernel not quite as large.

The new popcorn also has new packaging, designed to show consumers that it contains a different product, says the teacher. The VSHS graphic art class helped design the logo, which includes the courthouse and the familiar downtown Vinton street lights.

"We wanted our logo to include some iconic Vinton images," says Chvala.

The new variety will also be available for purchase at Fareway, Theisen's, Clingman Pharmacy, Ehlinger's convenience store, La Grange Pharmacy, John's Qwik Stop, Henkle Creek and Cameron's, New Beginnings and Jesse's Gems.

Class members have been delivering the popcorn, both in traditional and microwave packaging, to the retailers this week.

Popped Vinton Popcorn is also available at the Palace Theatre, as well as the V-S concession stand.
