As Heidi Koopman marks the 50th year since her father, Larry Kersten, first put a moving decorated light in their yard on the Mount Auburn Blacktop, the light display looks as fresh as ever. We took some close-up photos of many of the lights and mechanical displays a few weeks ago.

To get to the lights, travel north on 218, then turn right on V61 (Mount Auburn Blacktop) and travel about 4 miles. The lights go on at dusk and stay on until 9 p.m. on weekdays and 10 p.m. on weekends. There is also a box for donations (commonly known as "Shorty" the giraffe).

WG December 24, 2014, 1:38 am My dad, Ron, was in the Air Force, but when he and my mother Carol were able to bring us all home to Vinton for Christmas, the Kersten\'s corner was always something we begged to go see. It became a part of the tradition in our family outing then, while visiting the neighborhoods to see all the Christmas light displays. Thank you for all the great memories!
