The Iowa State Patrol says two drivers injured in a Monday accident on a dusty Benton County Road were saved by wearing their seatbelts.

According to the ISP accident report page, A 1999 Nissan Pathfinder was west bound on 59th Street Trail when dust from an eastbound driver obscured the vision of driver Danny McDaniel of Shellsburg. His car then collided with a 2001 GMC Jimmy driven by Jennifer Mathews of Center Point. McDaniel’s vehicle entered the ditch, while Mathew’s ended up on its roof.

Mathews was transferred by air ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. The ISP is continuing to investigate the accident.
