School Administrators of Iowa announced Matt Kingsbury, Vinton-Shellsburg High School principal, was a finalist for the 2015 Iowa Secondary Principal of the Year award. “We are pleased to recognize school leaders who are committed to education,” said Dan Smith, SAI executive director.

Professional Learning Communities, Response to Intervention, 1:1 laptops, curriculum alignment, blended learning, and student course data collection are a few of the initiatives that V-S High School has implemented the past few years.

Kingsbury was nominated for the award by his peers and will be recognized at SAI’s awards reception August 5 in Des Moines.

He has been a secondary principal in Vinton-Shellsburg CSD since 2011. Before coming to the district, Kingsbury was a teacher and coach at Wapello High School and a high school principal at Columbus Junction High School and Durant High School.

SAI, a statewide organization founded in 1987, represents more than 1,800 Iowa educational administrators. SAI's mission is to enhance PreK-12 education through effective leadership by school administrators.
