On March 27th, the Vinton-Shellsburg High School held the Animal Learning Lab Open House from 11:30 am- 1 pm. Members of the community and sponsors of the Animal Learning Lab joined Mrs. Fleming and a few FFA members in the celebration of the new building.

At the open house, the W.H.O Big Show interviewed Mrs. Fleming and some of the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter members. There were also guest speakers, including the Coalition to Support Iowa Farmers, Mrs. Hainstock, and Todd Wiley, who talked about the opportunities that the lab is providing students, with the ability for them to see animals up close and personal.

After the guest speakers finished their speeches, the ribbon was cut and food was served. Community members helped themselves to the delicious food that was served at the open house and when they finished eating they walked around and seen the different aspects of the barn. They had the chance to see the different poultry and rabbits that Mr. Huber brought in and the chickens that the Ag classes are raising.

Before the open house was finished, Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Member, Drew Wiley, brought in one of his cows to show how the chute works and the safety features on it that will provide students with a safe and educational experience.

All in all, the day went very well. It was great to be able to have an open house to show sponsors what has become of their amazing donations and to show the community members the advancements that the Agricultural Department has made.
