On April 29th, the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter members went to the Benton County Fairgrounds to help out at 3rd Grade Ag Day. 3rd Grade Ag Day helps 3rd graders learn about animals and equipment that is used on farms.
There were many different sessions that the students went to including swine, beef, dairy, sheep and goats, corn and soybeans, horses, farm equipment and safety, and poultry and rabbits. Vinton-Shellsburg FFA members taught about horses and dairy and helped with teaching more about swine to the 3rd graders that attended.
Along with teaching classes, the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter members also helped lead groups from session to session and helped serve lunch to the students when it came time to eat.
The Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter worked with BC Farm Bureau, BC Corn Growers, BC Cattlemen, BC Dairy Producers, BC Pork Producers, Belle Plaine FFA Chapter, Benton Community FFA Chapter, BC ISUEO, ECI REC, BC Conservation, and BC 4-H to help make the 3rd Grade Ag Day a successful event.
All in all, the day was very good! All the members enjoyed working with the kids that came from Belle Plaines, Benton Community, and Vinton-Shellsburg schools and the students who attended enjoyed learning about the different aspects of agriculture.
