Mrs. Lacey Chvala and her first grade students helped organize a food drive for the Shellsburg Food Pantry. But instead of determining the winning class by the amount of food they bring in, organizers decided to have a "Canstruction" contest, challenging the students to creatively display their items.
"Our principal, Mr. Davis challenged all classes to do a community service project throughout the year. First grade decided on a food drive. We decided to choose a winning class based off the best CANstruction rather than how many cans collected," says Mrs. Chvala. "The kids were pretty creative building with their donations, so it would be fun to make this an annual event."
