Benton County Amvets Post 218 was honored by Governor Terry Brandstad and Lieutenant-Governor Kim Reynolds on June 4th at the Annual Governor's Volunteer Awards. The Amvets were nominated by the Department of Transportation for their volunteer work. They have been performing highway cleanup along a portion of IA-218 for 10 years. The Amvets have also been volunteering at the I-380 rest stop on Memorial Day and Labor Day providing coffee and cookies for travelers. Benton County Amvets Post 218 was the only Veterans organization to receive the honor. The ceremony was attended by Commander, Denny Miller; Editor, Brian Robinson; Adjutant, Tracy Sellers; Chaplain, Lonnie McDonald and Dale Henry.
