The Vinton Lion’s Club will be at all Party In The Park activities selling funnel cakes, sno cones, and more from their food trailer. The 82 members support the club with their dues while all proceeds of food sales and other Lion’s programs are donated to local, national, and international causes.
The Vinton Lion’s club has supported the Palace Theater and the Benton County Nature Center, school athletic programs and facilities such as the new football field, and local scholarships.
During the 2014-15 year the group provided financial support to an early literacy project, “Reach Out and Read”, after a presentation to the group by Dr. Maggie Mangold. The Virginia Gay Foundation provided additional financial support while the health care providers of Virginia Gay share books and read to young patients. The Vinton Lions also participated in a literacy day with students at Tilford Elementary.
Founded in 1922, the 93 year old club made support of the visually impaired a local mission. The local club’s efforts predated Helen Keller’s request that Lions International to make vision its primary mission, and today the local group screens thousands of preschoolers for visual conditions in cooperation with the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology.
Buy a snack this weekend or better yet, ask a Lion about joining in our effort to support our community.
