Organizers of Party in the Park and other events taking place this weekend are keeping an eye on the sky, hoping the weather does not cause interruptions.
Weather has already spoiled one local weekend event, and rain may interrupt Sunday's art fest in Celebration Park or add more water to the Vinton Fire Department waterball fights Sunday afternoon. There is also a chance of rain this evening, when the Friday Party in the Park events at Riverside Park include music and fireworks.
While Party in the Park events have gone on so far, the Evergreen Cemetery flea market has been postponed because of standing water in the area organizers planned to use. That event will be rescheduled for a later date.
The good weather news, however, is that Saturday's forecast is clear; partly sunny skies are expected for the afternoon activities at Riverside Park, the parade and the evening concert and fireworks. .
Also, despite some minor flooding on the Cedar River in Cedar Falls and Waterloo and other areas to the north, there at this time is no risk of flooding in Vinton, says Emergency Management Director Scott Hansen.
The river is expected to crest at around 13 feet this weekend, which is below flood stage.
