On June 29th, 2015 the 2015-2016 Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter Officer Team went on the annual FFA Officer Retreat at Clear Lake, Iowa. The retreat that was lead by Mrs. Fleming and Mrs. Heeren, the new ag teacher and FFA Co-Advisor, lasted for three days, with the members, advisors, and Scott Fleming leaving on Wednesday the 1st of July.

The team started their day off at 9 am, when they left for Clear Lake. After arriving around lunch time, the officers and advisors sat down to discuss the results of a personality test that they took prior to the trip, ate a delicious meal that Scott Fleming made for them, and did a quick activity that was meant to help the officers learn how to work and communicate to one another.

The rest of the day, and the next following days were busy. The officers had to do multiple icebreakers, which challenged them to work as a team to get the best result, participate in boating, swimming, and tubing fun, as well as discuss various business items that would strengthen the team, the chapter, and each of the members individually in the next school year. The discussions were great fun and lead to the officers coming up with the theme for 2015-2016 Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter, which is; Rise Up, Reach Out.

The Officer Retreat has always been about bonding, creating new friendships, and trying to become the best team that the officers can be to improve the FFA Chapter. This year was a very successful year in bonding and in learning about strengths and weaknesses as well as coming up with new ideas that could potentially become new activities that the chapter partakes in.

It was great fun for the officers to assert themselves and really learn what their position is all about. The team has amazing plans for the upcoming year in FFA and hopes that all of the members in the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter will grow and rise up. It is their hope that everyone will Rise Up and Reach Out.
