The Vinton Lutheran Home Drive-Thru has become one of the most popular lunch stops for local residents one day a week.
More than 100 customers bought burgers and malts on Wednesday, as they have every week since the nursing home staff began offering the meals.
"Big shout out to the staff at the Vinton Lutheran Home today," wrote Vinton resident Matt Salger on his Facebook page yesterday. :If you have not gone to their drive-up on Wednesdays, I would highly recommend it. I had an awesome burger and and even better chocolate malt - thanks so much (can we make tomorrow Wednesday again) - I know what my Wednesday lunch spot will be from now on!!!!"
The fund-raiser has been so successful that residents are already benefiting from a new computer system purchased with funds from the drive-thru. The “Never Too Late” computer system is designed for senior citizens. In addition to being easy to use with large icons on its touch screen, it also includes a variety of programs that allow individuals and groups to exercise both physically and mentally. The drive-thru will continue each Wednesday through mid-October, and the VLH staff is planning to bring it back again for three months next summer. Customers can buy burgers on pretzel rolls with chips for $6 or hand-made chocolate malts for $2.
