Mayor John Watson will serve at least two more years, and two new members will join him when the council begins its next session in January of 2016.

Watson, who has served for two decades, usually without election opponents, survived a challenge by former council member Bud Maynard. Watson won by fewer than 40 votes, 466-428.

In Ward 4, Nathan Hesson narrowly defeated incumbent Chris Bendull, 116-107. The new At-Large member will be Brian Parr, who won by a 605-264 vote over Ted Jessen.

Incumbents Tami Stark, Zach Parmater and Ron Elwick all run unopposed and were re-elected.

Voters also overwhelmingly approved both public measures.

The vote on forming a telecom utility passed 793-104; the measure putting the VMEU Board in charge of the new utility passed by a 739-152 margin.
