Along with learning how to design, program and pilot a Lego robot well enough to earn the school's first trip to the State Competition, the members of VS Middle School Lego League teams are leading an effort to help recycle electronics.
Working with an electronics recycling company, the students are collecting a variety of items, and the school progam will receive funding from profits from the resale of those items.
Good resellable items that the students are collecting include cell phones, smart phones, iPads, iPods, tablets, laptops, desktop computers, digital cameras, LCD and LED monitors and TV (not tube TVs, however), high-output printers, commercial or business grade scanners and copiers, home theater equipment, projectors, Blue-Ray/DVD players, business class phones and equipment, current and vintage gaming systems and equipment and "Apple Anything."
Items may be dropped off at the middle school.
The two teams that earned a berth at the State event, Retro Recyclers and the Cleanup Crew, have been regularly practicing with advisor Jeff Mangold as they prepare for the Jan. 17, 2016, contest.
