News : Driver arrested after leading deputies on high-speed chase

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office arrested Bobby Jo Witt age: 41 from Cedar Rapids Iowa following a chase during the early morning hours of December 17, 2015. A deputy on patrol between Newhall and Atkins at 12:19 am observed the driver of a vehicle run a stop sign and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver refused to stop and attempted to elude the deputy driving away at speeds exceeding 80 miles per hour. The driver continued into Linn County where the Linn County Sheriff’s office assisted and deployed stop sticks deflating one of the vehicle’s tires. Witt was taken into custody and charged with multiple traffic violations, attempting to elude and driving while barred. Witt remains in the Benton County Jail after seeing the Magistrate and is being held on a $2,000.00 bond. A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
