The North Eden Willing Workers enjoyed a delicious (though chilly) picnic supper for their May 1st meeting at Riverside Park. Leaders organized rotating speakers during the meal to review tips and rules for 4-H projects. The speakers covered Communications Day events, Livestock showmanship and etiquette, conference judging and write-ups, the Principles and Elements of Design, and Photography project advice. Members are encouraged to ask questions and bring their projects to the NEWW Achievement Show planned for June 29th.

The Crayon Initiative committee announced that over 60 pounds of used crayons have been collected. Shellsburg classes competed to amass the most; Mrs. Gordon’s class won and received ice cream treats for their hard work. Thank you to everyone who has donated! Collection boxes are still available at Tilford.

Last year, the club planted vegetables and flowers at the Vinton Lutheran Home and created flower gardens at Windsor Manor. The residents enjoyed the club’s work very much, so the North Eden Willing Workers plan to do it again this year on May 13th (an early out). We will meet at the Lutheran Home at 1:30 and drive over to Windsor Manor at 2:30. Members, wear your work clothes! During the meeting, the club also signed up for summer committees and discussed plans for a livestock tour.

Six members gave presentations. Jordon Pattee showed the club how to make a cardboard-and-string spinner, which proved very popular. Her sister Jenna demonstrated how to decorate glass with abstract nail polish designs and later drew numbers to give away several of her creations. Aleric Weber taught the club to make a corkboard, and Connie Upmeyer created tie-dye coasters with permanent marker and rubbing alcohol. Two tasty presentations included Greta Dilley’s smoothie recipe and Corey Murdock’s crockpot Chex Mix, which the club enjoyed with supper. Many families provided food and dinnerware; 31 members attended.
