On Saturday May 14, the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter and the City of Vinton Park and Recreation Department held a Spring Fling Carnival and Touch a Truck event in the high school parking lot for any and all ages with proceeds going towards Operation BackPack.
The Spring Fling Carnival included a petting zoo with a mini horse, two mini donkeys, two calves, two goats, and two sheep. There were also many games to get people involved they included tic-tac-toe, milking the fake cow, magnet fishing, racing, bags, throw the (fake) fruit at the (wooden) pig, and get the (fake) egg in the (wooden) chicken nest. The FFA members were in charge of managing the games and instructing and helping children to the different activities.
The Touch a Truck portion was a community event that gave children the opportunity to interact with real life-size tractors and trucks while getting to know our community support leaders those include Police Officers, Firemen, Construction Workers, and Farmers. The event raised more than $500 for Operation Backpack.
