In addition to help from their neighbors, families, the Red Cross and Salvation Army, local residents most severely impacted by Sunday's tornado can receive some individual assistance from the State of Iowa.
Governor Terry Branstad's Disaster Proclamation which includes Benton County means that qualified individuals have until Aug. 31 to apply for up to $5,000 in assistance.
The Iowa Individual Disaster Assistance Grant Program was launched with a governor's declaration and at the request of local officials. This program offers grants to families with incomes at or below twice the federal poverty index. The maximum grant is $5,000. Items covered can include kitchen appliances, beds, furniture, water heater, humidifier, sump pump, electrical items, temporary housing, debris removal and clothing.See the Declaration HERE.
