An act of kindness above and beyond the call of duty by a Vinton police officer has earned the respect of residents who saw or heard about it.

Logan Merchant of Vinton posted a photo, with the following information:

"I'm not normally one to post stuff like this, but the way police have been portrayed lately I felt I should. Today I noticed an ambulance across from work, and the neighbors said they thought the elderly man had fainted while mowing his yard. I hope he has a quick recovery! When the ambulance left this Officer stayed and finished mowing the mans yard for him. I don't know who the officer is, but I want to thank him and the Vinton Police Department for the way he is setting an example and how they are serving this community!

Vinton Today has learned that the officer is Captain Eric Dickinson.
