News : Free school supplies distribution day set for Aug. 9, at Clickstop Cares

Distribution of free school supplies for families in need will take place at Clickstop Cares on Tuesday, August 9 from 2:00-6:00 pm AND Wednesday, August 17 from 3:00-7:00 pm. Clickstop Cares is located at 2535 Bing Miller Lane in Urbana at the company’s warehouse location just past the REC office (NOT the main Clickstop office on I-380). Families will also be able to look for clothing and household items that they may need on these dates in the Clickstop Cares Closet.

Once again the Vinton-Shellsburg Schools are working with area churches and local businesses to gather school supplies for students. Last year we provided supplies for over 150 students in our school district. If you would like to donate supplies, you can bring them to a collection box at the following locations: Shopko, Fareway, LaGrange Pharmacy and the Vinton Unlimited Office. If you would like to sponsor a student or make a cash donation you can bring that to the VS Schools Central Office at 1502 C Ave. The cost to sponsor one student with a full set of grade level supplies is $40. We will take any size monetary donations and we anticipate a greater need this year due to families displaced by the recent tornado.

When parents register their elementary student online this year (starting July 26), as an option, they will be able to purchase a pre-packaged set of basic school supplies through MonkeyTown. The pre-packaged kit does not include the optional items, gym shoes, art shirts or backpacks and will be available for elementary students only. These supplies can be picked up at MonkeyTown after August 17 or they will be delivered to the child’s school by August 22 for the open house night. Orders will only be taken through the online registration process and paid for when you check out.

If you need assistance with registering your child, you can come to the high school on August 9 and there will be staff to assist you at that time.
