On June 14th, 2016 four Vinton-Shellsburg FFA chapter members participated in state floriculture CDE at Kirkwood Community College. Kirkwood is the only school in the state that offers Floral careers and design as part of their agriculture department. The members that attended were Erin Cantrell, Sarah Siglin, Brianna Lundvall, and Keri Webster.
State Floriculture consists of multiple activities in which the members take part in. The activities include plant identification, a general knowledge test, greenhouse production, a pesticide use and application test, problem solving test, and a team event.
The team placed 2nd overall out of 22 teams receiving a gold rating. Erin Cantrell was Overall Individual Champion, Keri Webster placed as 6th individual, Sarah Siglin placed as 8th individual. Erin Cantrell placed 1st in general knowledge test. As team, they placed 1st in floral design and Erin Cantrell placed 1st individual in floral design. Keri Webster placed 1st in floral production as an individual.
