Vinton residents who enjoy visiting city parks have already noticed new "Little Free Libraries" that were recently placed at B.L. Anderson, Kiwanis and Jaycee Park.

Residents are welcome to take books from any of the three sites, and encouraged to return them (or other books) for others to read.

The three small house-shaped boxes are the work of Eagle Scout Ryan Levis, a member of Troop 47. Levis chose the libraries as his Eagle Scout project. He used lumber left-over from a fencing project at his home, and also received a donation from the Vinton Lions Club.

Levis and friends will continue to monitor the libraries to make sure they are full of books. The local Girl Scout troop has also agreed to help maintain the book supply at one of the locations, said Ryan.

Little Free Library is a national organization that encourages projects like this.
