News : Supervisors to discuss temporary closing of landfill in special meeting Friday

The Benton County Board of Supervisors will meet at 8 a.m. Friday to discuss the temporary closing of the Benton County Landfill. County officials are also finalizing an agreement to haul waste to the Cedar Rapids/Linn County landfill while the Benton County facility south of Blairstown is closed.

The discussion comes as county officials are negotiating with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources on a fine and other remedial action following a Notice of Violation from the DNR. The DNR is suggesting a $10,000 fine for failure to provide daily cover and other landfill violations. See that story HERE.
