After a comparatively easy sweep at East Marshall, the VS Vikings baseball team needed some big innings and big outs to defeat Center Point-Urbana, 12-6, and 11-8 Tuesday at Vinton. Coach Jim Struve shared the following summary
Game #1
Vikings were down 6-1 when they scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to tie the game. Scottie Wirth pitched 6 2/3 innnings with 9 strikeouts to get the win and Scott Betterton got the save. Conner Miracle led the Vikings with 3 hits and a double. Wes Edwards, Nathan Struve, Scottie With, and Cole Overton had 2 hits apiece with Struve and Overton hitting Home runs.
Game #2
The Vikings built an early 6-0 lead, but CPU came back to cut the lead in half in the 3rd inning. Again, the Vikings had a 10-3 lead, but CPU scored 5 runs in the top of the 6th inning to make things interesting. Nathan Struve got the win allowing 1 hit and Scott Betterton pitched the remaining 1 2/3 innings for his 2nd Save on the night. Wes Edwards, Nathan Struve, and Jared Thompson had 2 hits each and Tanner Davis had a 3 RBI double.
