SAL Detachment of Iowa Commander Gary Bonesteel, American Legion National Commander Denise Rohan and ALR Iowa Chapter 166 President Kaye Bonesteel. They were among many veterans leaders celebrating with Post 57. American Legion National Commander Denise Rohan listens as USAA's Steve Cochran speaks about the $20,000 prize and the importance of veterans groups. It was pure luck that the George G. Luckey Post 57 Legion of Vinton won $20,000 in a sweepstakes sponsored the USAA insurance company. Accompanied by the Commander of the National American Legion, Denise Rohan of Elkader,USAA's Steve Cochran visited the Legion Post on Tuesday to present the gift. Rohan is the first Iowan female to command the national Legion. "Back in September I saw an announcement of the Giveaway on the American Legion's National website," says Post 57 Adjutant Brad Anderson. "Being a member of USAA, I entered, never thinking I would win. I was wrong, I won." Winning means the gift of $20,000, which Legion members can use for their post in any way they see fit. Building improvements are among the first priorities, says Anderson. The Legion Post, like the City of Vinton, will celebrate a big milestone in 1919 (100 years for Post 57, 150 for the City of Vinton).
