By: Shelby McDonald, Co-Reporter Oon October 25, the Vinton- Shellsburg FFA Chapter left the high school around 6 am to go to national convention Indianapolis, Indiana. We had 15 students attend this year's convention, 3 amazing chaperones: Susie Henkle, Denise Evans, and Marge McDonald, and our 2 advisors. We stopped about halfway in Peoria, Illinois at the CAT museum, and learned all about Caterpillar history and their equipment. When we arrived in Brownsburg, Indiana we stopped at our hotel to unpack and ate at a local restaurant before we went to the Rascal Flatts concert at the Lucas Oil Stadium. On the 26th we got up bright and early and to head to the first general session, where we got to listen to Laila Ali speak about her life as a female boxer and daughter of Muhammad Ali. After session we went to the career fair and the shopping area. Later on, we headed back for the 2nd general session, seeing Central Region Vice President Valerie Earley give her retiring address, then finished our afternoon at the Indiana mall right downtown. That night we went to Boulder Creek a restaurant in Brownsburg for a nice meal, then went to our hotel. Friday the 27th, our final day in Indiana, we got up around 6 am and headed to the fourth general session, we listened to Eastern Region Vice President give her retiring address. We left the session just a little early, some of the members could go to a workshop if the wanted to and finish up their shopping and checking out the career fair before we headed home. Once we left expo center we stopped at the Indianapolis motor speedway in Indiana for one last tour before we left. Members took a lap around the track and get off at the bricks so who ever wanted to kiss them could and the bus took us back to the building where they then toured the museum and gift shop. On our way home we stopped at Cracker Barrel in Illinois and ate for the night, arriving back at the high school around 10:00 to help unpack the vehicles.
