The Linn County Sheriff's Office has identified the man who died in a Wednesday morning crash on Highway 30 west of Cedar Rapids as John Gibbs, 62, of Vinton. Authorities say Gibbs was the driver whose eastbound sedan left the roadway, entered the median and collided with some sand barrels and then re-entered the roadway, into the path of a vehicle driven by Bruce Gardner, 67, of Garrison. Gibbs' vehicle ended up on its top; he was pronounced dead at Mercy Medical Center. Gardner was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital with what authorities believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Authories say both drivers were alone and were wearing seatbelts. Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton is handling funeral arrangements.
