We get a lot of e-mail at the Vinton Today, usually the news items to share, are the run of the mill things.
Friday we got an email from our ever so kind, Virginia "The Librarian" Holsten. She sent along a link to the Library's website as well as a note about some new features on there.
Just go to: http://vintonlibrary.com then look on the left where there is a blue rectangle that says, "Click here for tumblebooks" When you click there it takes you to a fun page for kids.
One of the things offered on this page includes talking books for kids. I DON'T want my kids to know about this! If they get wind of this, I will NEVER get my computer back! It is the greatest!
There are story books, new books, chapter books, puzzles and games, language learning, nonfiction books...
(I just about forgot about the other thing wanted to mention in my hurry to get back to the site and play there myself :)
There is also a circle on the the left that says "Ebsco Host" when you click on this, it takes you to a login page. The User name is, "vinton", and the password, "library". (Or just click here and bookmark it!)
There is a section for magazines, research assistance for students 6-12th grades among other things.
The tabs that will probably have my attention the most are the Hobbies and Crafts . Under this tab there are categories for Arts and Crafts, Collecting, Electronics and Games, Home and Leisure, Model Building, Needlecraft and Textiles, Outdoors and Nature, Scrapbooking and Paper Crafts.
For the guys, and those of us that need it, there is also an Auto Repair and Maintenance Center. This won't be useful for anyone with a car older than 1945.... :)
Simply click on the year of the car, then the make and model, engine size, then it takes you to another page with Repair Topics for that specific car. It lists, Repair Procedures, Service Bulletins and Recalls, Wiring Diagrams, Labor and Specifications.
Just for the fun of it, I clicked the information in for my van, which I knew had a couple recalls on it. I opened a page of 15 possible problems for my van!
So the next time you are bored, go here, browse a while, you'll be surprised at how fast the time flies while you are clicking away on this site!
And when you are in the library next, tell Virginia how much you enjoyed it!
