Vinton city workers spent much of Monday morning placing 40 boxes of Christmas lights on the two large evergreen trees on the south side of the courthouse lawn.
Those lights will go on for the first time this Thursday evening, when Santa arrives after the annual Veterans Patriotic Christmas Parade.
Jeff Kenney and Mark Smith did the stringing of the lights, assisted by colleagues on the ground. Each tree required 20 sets of 100 lights; each string was approximately 50 feet long.
