Every year, more than 3,500 middle school choir students send in an audition tape for the Iowa Choral Directors Association Opus Choir. Only 760 students are selected – in four different 180-member choirs.

This year, Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School student Katie Hancock is one of those who was chosen to sing with the Opus Choir. The event takes place this weekend at the Iowa State University campus in Ames, along with the All-State choir, band and orchestra events.

Katie and the other 179 members of the girls 7th and 8th grade choir will be singing several songs, including “Kyrie,” “Hello Girls,” “Hoj, hura hoj” and “The Seal Lullaby.”

This is the 25th annual Opus event. See the ICDA's Opus Web site HERE.
