Today (Wednesday, Nov 17) is Career Day at Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School. The eighth grade students learned about a variety of careers from people in those occupations. The visitors discussed their jobs, why they like their work and the challenges they face.

The students heard from a financial advisor, police officer, and medical professionals, and others.

Tina Eden, RN, and Allison Berns, PA-C, of Virginia Gay Hospital, began their presentation with a demonstration. The two instructed students in how to properly put on isolation gear, used by medical professionals to prevent the spread of germs between patients and their care providers.

Teresa Meyer, a Farm Bureau financial advisor, asked students to list some things that could affect them financially, either in good ways (getting a job) or bad ways (suffering a serious illness). She told the students how a good financial advisors helps prepare clients for both good and bad events.
