...the children sang together at the Benton County Conservation's Nature Center northwest of Vinton.
In a program hosted by Aaron Askleton and Caitlin Savage, the two read books, made crafts and explained to the children various characteristics of nocturnal animals.
The children were able to feel a coyote pelt as well as a see what a brown bat looks like up close.
When asked what a bat eats, one might expect to hear bugs, but with children, they think that they should eat brownies, which gave the adults in the room quite a laugh.
The children also got to see a Gray Horned Owl up close and were able to learn about how skunks try to scare off a predator before giving off the awful odor that we often smell. (In case you're wondering, the skunk will run, then stop and stomp on the ground and hiss, and if you are still chasing them, well, you know what comes next!)
To top off the morning, the children had a chance to make their own craft, a bat which is perfect for Halloween decorating around the house!
