The Benton County Nature Center was the place to be for some unique trick or treating fun on Thursday afternoon. But before that, the children were entertained by a Praying Mantis that Aaron Askelson had in a small container. As they sat around the floor of the Nature Center waiting for the hunt to begin they were able to look at the insect up close, and of course, get a little education about the bug. Aaron explained to the children that the insect has little hooks on it's feet so that holding the insect might not be a good idea. Caitlin Savage, led the children in the geocaching event. Using GPS equipment children were able to locate 13 places where they might find a trick or a treat. Geocaching techniques teach the children how to follow a compass on the GPS, and tells them approximately how many feet away they are from the find. The group managed to find all 13 locations around the grounds of the Nature Center. Caitlin, patiently showed the children how the GPS technology worked and and instructed the children on how to use them. Be sure to check out the Nature Center for more activities.
