At approximately 7:23 p.m. on December 2, 2019, the Benton County Sheriff's Office attempted a traffic stop in Norway for a traffic violation. 

When a deputy activated the emergency lights, the driver sped away. Officers from the Benton County Sheriff's Office, Belle Plaine Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Tama County Sheriff's Office, and Iowa County Sheriff's Office began to pursue the suspect.

The suspect intentionally rammed two deputy's vehicles during the chase. All attempts to stop the suspect were unsuccessful. 

The suspect vehicle became disabled after driving into Prairie Creek on 22nd Avenue just east of Blairstown. The suspect fled on foot. Deputies involved in the vehicle pursuit were able to identify the driver. Charges are pending.
